From Our Family to Yours – September 2023

We’re so glad to connect with you again! It’s been a great month in the Hanson family.

Hannah and I celebrated our 18th wedding anniversary with a family trip to Sequoia National Park. It’s impossible to take a picture epic enough to capture the overwhelming beauty there and the size of the trees, but here are a few pictures to give you an idea.

Several of our kids have gotten into playing Scrabble recently, and Ashlinn has won every game we’ve played so far. Scrabble was one of my mom’s favorite games, so it’s extra special to enjoy it with my kids now. This is a picture of them playing with my sisters and my uncle.

To celebrate my Great-Aunt Pearl’s 90th birthday, we gathered with dozens of our extended family and her long-time friends in San Jose. It was wonderful to connect with family members we hadn’t seen in many years, including my two sisters.

We also celebrated Carys’s 14th birthday. She was excited that Sergio’s Mexican Restaurant is back in business after closing during the pandemic, so we took her to dinner there. Sergio’s has been a long-time favorite in our family, and returning again brought us much joy.

On top of all that, we celebrated Annaliese’s first birthday too. She had her very first ice cream and loved it. She continues delighting our hearts and growing in her confidence.

Most recently, we celebrated the 40-year anniversary of Foothill Vineyard Church. The founding pastors, Tom and Jan Dunn, came from out of town to attend, and Ashlinn and Carys got to interview them about the their journey and the history of the church for a school project. Among other things, Tom and Jan shared how so much of the amazing work they got to do didn’t happen according to a plan they made ahead of time. In a season when our kids are pondering how to live a meaningful life and sometimes feel concerned about not having a grand plan, it was great for them to hear that a grand plan isn’t necessary for living well from some folks in their 70s who have lived very well.

Thanks again for sharing part of your day with us. We’re always grateful to hear from you, so feel free to call, text, or e-mail anytime.

Blessings until next time! -Caleb
